Fear not: for behold, I bring you tidings... Enslaved AU / Enslaved AU OOC / Contact & HMD / link four / link five |

| Messenger Angel (Normal!Verse) Everyone has seen him. He's the church volunteer praying with the families of the sick and injured in the hospital. He's the guy returning the purse to the lady who forgot it on the bus. He's the man who miraculously had the band-aid for the boy who'd skinned his knee. He's also the person who watched as that executive's keys fell down the sewer grate and kept walking. The guy who didn't even offer a tissue to the girl crying on the park bench. Who didn't stop the mugger as he ran away with the teenage kid's wallet. Metatron is the voice of God, but only He has the ability to be everywhere. Anathiel is one of the angels who is there when Metatron can't be; he's a messenger and nothing more - there to give answers to someone's prayers. Most often, he sits at their bedside and speaks to their dreams, a warm and gentle presence, even when the answer isn't what they want to hear. When a true appearance is needed, though, he arrives as they would expect: pale wings unfurled, wearing glowing white. The difficulty of knowing the answers is that he sometimes sees pieces of the greater plan. While he prays alongside the families of the dying, he knows he can't do more than lessen their burden by taking some on himself. But when he sees that woman crying, he knows that the man who left her has just left room for the better man who'll find her. He's seen that, while an answer may be no, it doesn't mean it's for the worst - but it's still a painful thing to hear. |
Broken Faith (Enslaved!AU) Sympathy was his downfall. Anathiel spent night after night trying to ease suffering as people died from the plague - but he was no angel of healing. He was only a messenger. As he left another empty home, he was quickly jumped and detained, enslaved before dawn. There was a benefit to having been little more than a messenger. After Anathiel was caught and enslaved, he already had the benefit of knowing how to follow orders, even if the orders only seldom related to the messenger duties he'd known for all of his heavenly existence. At first, he was relegated to removing the dead and delivering them to the mass graves and then to the pyres as they ran out of room in the graveyards. From then, most of his work was physical labor. He was put to work at the low-staffed farms, growing the food that he could do without but that the remaining humans couldn't. As his ring reverted to auction house after auction house, he saw mines and fishing boats, eventually crossing to the New World where he helped break ground for the colonies. In the 1800s, his ring fell into the hands of a less-than-scrupulous set in New York. They attempted to use him in the fighting pits, but soon discovered that no matter how they punished, he couldn't win. He had the physical ability but not the necessary spirit. A disappointment, Anathiel was soon used, instead, to tend to the Pits where the angels fought. He worked as he was ordered to but during the Depression, when gambling money was slim, it was decided he could be spared for income. With the interest of keeping the Pit unnoticed, he was sold to a legitimate auction house for a decent price, given his pale wings. He was sold to a family of bootleggers that had made their money during Prohibition. To them, he was a showpiece. Proof that, even as the rest of the world was struggling to eat, they were well-off enough to have a very expensive servant. The family's deeds caught up with them, however, and he was sold once more to pay fines levied against them and bail. Since then, his ring has changed hands more than once. Anathiel has become a broken and cowed being. He's been injured inside and out, been forced to fight and to kill, been hurt for no other reason than the simple want to hurt. It's left him with his Faith more battered than his body. |
Appearance/Personality. Anathiel is tall and strong with brown hair reaching to his shoulders. His eyes are blue and at times, they're the most expressive part of his face. In many ways, Anathiel embodies the still, small voice - present, but easily missed as he blends in among those he's around. When he does show his wings, they're wide and pale, like a barn owl's in opposite, and when he speaks, his voice is soft and gentle. In the normal 'verse, he's sympathetic and kind, will gladly listen to someone's problems and pray with them. In the enslaved 'verse, he follows orders without complaint, more often lost inside his own doubts thanks to what he's seen. Anathiel is based on Judeochristian mythology but his characterisation is mine. No offense is meant, only some storytelling and enjoyment. He is portrayed by Christian Kane. The character is thousands of years old. The mun is over 18. profile layout by creative_muse |
